What is the TPCOC Timebank?
The TPCOC Timebank is a community exchange system where members trade time, skills, and services instead of money. Every hour you give becomes one Freedom Credit. You can use those credits to request services from any other member.
How does the Timebank work?
It is simple. You offer a service to a member. You earn Freedom Credits for the time you give. You spend those credits when you need a service from someone else. One hour equals one Freedom Credit.
What are Freedom Credits?
Freedom Credits are the community currency of the TPCOC Timebank. One Freedom Credit equals one hour of service. Credits are earned by giving time and are spent when receiving help.
Do new members get credits?
Yes. Every new member starts with a welcome balance of five Freedom Credits. This allows you to request help right away and learn how the Timebank works.
How do I earn more Freedom Credits?
You earn credits by providing services to other members. Examples include tutoring, transportation, childcare, design work, mentoring, editing, coaching, and many other skills.
Can I run out of Freedom Credits?
No. You may reach a balance of zero, but you can always earn more by helping another member. The Timebank cannot run out of credits because credits are created each time someone gives an hour of service.
Is one hour of service always worth one Freedom Credit?
Yes. All time is equal in the Timebank. Whether you teach a class or help someone organize a room, one hour equals one Freedom Credit.
Does the Timebank use real money?
No. Freedom Credits are not connected to dollars. The Timebank operates through giving, receiving, and building community support.
What kind of services can I offer?
Almost any skill or task that uses time. Examples include:
• tutoring
• professional services
• virtual assistance
• business coaching
• elder support
• light chores
• digital design
• writing or editing
• transportation
• technology help
• fitness or wellness guidance
All services must be safe and legal.
What if I need help but have no credits?
This is not a problem. Your initial five credits allow you to start right away. If you reach zero, you earn more credits by helping another member.
Is participation voluntary?
Yes. You choose which services you offer and which services you request. There are no required hours or obligations.
Who can join?
The Timebank is open to all active members of The People’s Chamber of Commerce. Membership in the Chamber is required to participate.
Is my information private?
Yes. Only the information you choose to display is visible to other members. Personal data is protected and used only for Timebank activities.
How does the Timebank support TPCOC’s mission?
The Timebank helps build community connection, trust, shared value, and economic resilience. It allows people to support one another, share skills, and strengthen the Chamber through cooperation.
Does TPCOC earn money from the Timebank?
The Timebank itself does not produce money. The Chamber may earn income through membership fees, events, sponsorships, grants, or community programs. These funds support the growth and mission of TPCOC.
What if I have a dispute with another member?
Members should first try to resolve issues respectfully. If needed, a Timebank coordinator or Chamber representative can help address the concern.
How do I get started?
Create your profile, list the services you can offer, explore available services, and begin exchanging time. Your initial five credits are already in your account.
